After many meals but not enough time in Dallas, we headed down toward Houston. We drove carefully to avoid being arrested (and placed in the maximum security prison in Hunstville). Actually there is not much in the way of memorable scenery on Route 45 between Dallas and Houston. But there is an enormous statue of Sam Houston and Ben captured two pretty good views of him. (Does he look a little like Clinton? Bush? Johnson? Ben?)
We landed in Houston and were welcomed at Hugo's Restaurant where Doris Pryzant, proud grandmother of Ben, not only posed for a wonderful picture with her grandson but also hosted us to our first Houston dinner.
What wonderful luck! The very next night, it just happened that Dennis Backer was in town from California having a family get-together to celebrate his mother Ida's birthday. Since Seymour is part of the family, we just joined in at the Melting Pot (where else?) for a fondue supper that lasted hours and hours and was fun and more fun! That's Dennis in the picture on the right, surrounded by us.
More shots from the fondue fest. Dennis' mother Ida, his daughters Carli and Liora--and, at the far right in the picture to the right, Sharon, mother of Liora and Carli. It was a wonderful event!
That's all, folks. Right now, we are busy putting our house together and the next electronic installment will show our house and all the great people we are seeing and greeting in Houston in our first few weeks. Whoever we forgot to photograph, we apologize. Some of the photos also did not come out because they were taken by Seymour and his hands are not as steady as Ben's and his eyes are not as sharp as Ben's. But we love you, one and all, and thank you for the wonderful welcomes we received on the road.
Our biggest regret was that the movers caused us to lose an entire day on our trip. That was the day we were planning to spend in Nashville with our good friends (our Tennessee family) Dick and Cynthia Morin. They were kind and understanding, but we were disappointed and we know they were, too, as we whisked through Nashville, not even stopping to holler. We promise to see you guys as soon as humanly possible.
Thanks to all of you for joining in the fun. Hope you like a few of the pictures. Isn't life amazing in the day of electronic and computer marvels? Special appreciations to Ben for his excellent photography, his steady hand, and his eagle eye.
